KorebotLE.Overview
The KoreBotLE Board is an XScale PXA255 board that can be used as an add-on for the Koala, the Khepera III, as a robot core, or for industrial prototyping.
An optional daughterboard, the KoreMotorLE, provides an interface to drive DC motors with or without encoders.
The KoreBotLE is powered by 5 volt and has a Compact Flash Type I slot.
The USB Host functions are available through the KB-250 connector or an adapter module to provide standard USB connectors. The typical application is to add a Wifi 802.11b card to give the Korebot wireless network capabilities.
KoreBotLE is designed to increase performance and connectivity while offering low
power consumption to the Koala and Khepera III mobile robots.
With the power of embedded linux it is particularly suitable for upgrading your existing robot or prototyping your own robot, from student
competitions to advanced research. KoreBotLE is the result of a collaboration
between K-Team and two labs at the Swiss Institute of Technology at Lausanne
namely the LAP within Armonie Project (credits to S. Magnenat, J. Pilet, & R.
Beuchat) and ASL within Swarm-Bots Project.
Designed for mobile robotics, KoreBotLE also fits the needs of OEM developers of
handheld devices: at the size of a credit card, KoreBotLE is a small, low
power embedded platform based on XScale. KoreBotLE extends the same type of
functionality and performance found in the latest generation consumer PDA
devices to the industrial market. Ready-to-run, extremely compact, but flexible
for expansion and customization for customer application needs, KoreBot
provides the starting point for new designs and comes complete with all the
hardware and software needed to start development including its Linux operating
system. K-Team provides fee-based support and training for developers.
KoreBotLE provides a KB-250 Interface. The KB-250 interface is an open standard
interface to expand the functionality of an existing ARM base platform in a
easy and fast way. Besides using a full line of off-the-shelf KB-250 modules,
developers can also design their own modules. KB-250 modules can be used
singularly or stacked together to give the needed functionality. KB-250 bus
does not include a system bus to ease module development but offers a rapid
serial bus.
KoreBotLE is an internet-ready appliance with web browser and server built-in when using pre-configured Linux operating system. With is load of I/O functions the XScale can be rapidly configured to be a data entry terminal, video player, or control system. Thanks to its KB-250 interface, KoreBotLE can be a super-component in a wireless system, or an element of a KB-250 stack. Contrarily to equivalent control board, KoreBotLE does not require extensive knowledge of a specific microprocessor assembler: Linux programming knowledge allows you to quickly develop advanced applications. K-Team provides in addition to Linux embedded operating system the cross-compilation tool chain for a Linux workstation to compile code for your KoreBotLE on your PC. Moreover, thanks to IP over USB, you can compile code on your workstation and test it on KoreBotLE from a mounted filesystem.
KoreBotLE is designed and manufactured by K-Team S.A., Lausanne, Switzerland.
